La nuit a été très courte à bord de Freelance.com. Guirec et Bilou ont cependant bien négocié le front qui a frappé la flotte, le vent a soufflé jusqu’à 50 noeuds en rafales et le bateau tapait fort dans une bien agitée.
Les conditions musclées ont malheureusement laissé des stigmates chez les camarades de course, au moins 5 bateaux se déroutent pour tenter de réparer leurs avaries.
Guirec et Bilou quant à eux, ont essuyé une belle frayeur en passant le rail d’Ouessant (l’autoroute des mers), un cargo les a surpris de nuit, ils ont manoeuvré de justesse pour éviter la collision (le cargo n’avait pas activé son AIS). De quoi glacer le sang…d’où le dicton : « Qui voit Ouessant voit son sang ».
Le vent a maintenant basculé au nord Ouest, et la flotte, maintenant en Atlantique, met le cap au sud.
Il va y avoir de la tactique dans l’air avant et après le passage de l’île Santa Maria des Açores (marque de parcours obligatoire).
La grande question des options n’a toujours pas trouvé sa réponse dans le cockpit de Freelance.com :
Option A : route sud vers les Alizés, pour une transat vent portant, en maillot de bain.
Option B : route plus nord, plus courte, plus engagée et éprouvante, en bottes et ciré.

The night was short aboard Freelance.com. Guirec and Bilou made it through the heavy weather that hit the fleet as they were headed from the Channel to the Atlantic. The wind blew up to 50 knots in gusts, and the hull was hitting hard on the rough sea.
At least five of the IMOCA boats got damaged and are heading to the closest port for repair.
Guirec and Bilou almost collided with cargo that was not showing on the AIS screen, they managed to maneuver on time.
Now the wind has turned NW and the fleet is now heading south in the Atlantic.
The big question that brainstorms our skippers is the tactical options to take before but above all, after turning the race mark on the eastern Açores island.
Option A : catch the Tradewinds to reach West Indies downwind in fair seas and bathing suit.
Option B : cross the Atlantic the northern way, to make it straight but rougher on storm suit.
